COMMUNITY EVENTS

  • Lions Community Service Award:  Rudyard Lions Club is accepting nominations for the Russell LaPonsie Community Service Award and Scholarship.  This recognizes a Rudyard High School senior who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to community service and will be attending college or a trade school in the fall.  The award is named for Russell LaPonsie, a long-time member of the Rudyard Lions Club and a dedicated community volunteer who was passionate about helping others.  Nominations for the award can be submitted by members of the community who are not relatives of the student.  To be eligible, the student must be a graduating senior from Rudyard High School who has demonstrated a commitment to community service through volunteer work, civic engagement, or other activities that benefit the community.  Nominations can be submitted dropped off at Spencer Insurance Agency, mailed to the Rudyard Lions Club at P.O. Bos 173, Rudyard, MI 49780, or emailed to RudyardLions@gmail.com.   The deadline for nominations is 4:00 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023.
  • Community Awareness Night:  Rudyard Lions will host a community meeting on May 24, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. to provide information on Narcan use and the 911 online sign-up program.  The meeting will provide information on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose, including the use of Narcan, a medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose.  Representatives of the Chippewa County 911 Center will explain how the Smart 911 system can provide life-saving information on medical conditions, medications, and emergency contacts.  The meeting will take place at the Rudyard Township Hall and light refreshments will be provided.
  • Spring Fling Drawing:   Rudyard Lions third annual Spring Fling Raffle drawing will be held May 26, 2023.  First prize will be a generator from Gaylor-Thompson Sales & Service, Second prize will be a Husqvarna battery-operated chainsaw from Cut River Sales & Service, and Third prize will be a $100 gift certificate from Love Meats.    Michigan raffle license number R68291
  • Rudyard Lions Weekly Drawing:  The 2023 drawings have begun, and all tickets have been sold   A third $250 drawing has been added this year!   First drawing $100, second drawing $25 each week from January through December 2023.  There will be 52 weekly drawings plus three $250 bonus drawings, one during Summerfest, one at Christmas, and another near Easter.   Each drawing will be on Friday at 9 am.  Drawing location: Spencer Insurance Agency, 11259 West Main St., Rudyard, MI 49780. State License Z07211.  Even if you win, your ticket stays in for the rest of the drawings! Proceeds go towards Lions sponsored community projects.  Special thanks to the ticket holders who have made this a success over the years.
  • January - March Cross Country Skiing at the Rudyard School Farm ski trails. (located 4 miles north of Rudyard on Tilson Rd. and 1 mile west on Thompson Rd.) Trails of varying length are maintained and groomed by the Rudyard Lions Club as long as snow conditions allow.
  • Fifth Annual Golf Ball Drop, The 2023 raffle is scheduled for July 29, 2023, at the Rudyard Township Park, with proceeds to community projects.  Tickets will be available from Lions Club Members, at Spencer Insurance, or at the Township Office prior to the event.  Michigan raffle license number not yet assigned.
  • 26th Annual Rudyard Lions Triathlon and 5K Race:  The event was held successfully in 2022 and it will be back again on Sunday, July 30, 2023, 9:30 am.  Visit our race web site  for the latest word.
  • Texas Hold 'Em:  Texas Hold 'Em fixed limit play event was held at Huck's Bar Pub & Grill in early December 2022.  A great time was had by all the participants and funds were raised that support the RHS softball program and the Rudyard Lions Club.  A big thank you to all of the partakers.  Plans are under way for future events.
  • Community tree lighting and Santa's visit.  Santa has made early plans and will be in town again this year.  He'll be at the Rudyard Township Hall on Friday, December 1, 2023
  • Christmas Home Decoration Contest:  Rudyard Lions held the annual Christmas home decoration contest in 2022.  Winners were:  First - Herb and Lil Gordon, Second - Christine and Brian VanSloten, and Third - Caleb and Holly Salo.  Gift certificates to local businesses were awarded to the top three decorated homes within the Rudyard area:  First place $75.00, second place $50.00, and third place $25.00
